How did you transition into becoming a founder and start your entrepreneurial journey?
With a background deeply rooted in problem-solving and versatility, Sharon needed to support rural and remote Indigenous communities. She saw an opportunity to combine her skills and passion for making a positive impact.
What sparked the idea for this venture?
The spark for Cree8iv Collaboration Inc dba DEVA Training & Staffing Solutions ignited from a convergence of factors deeply rooted in her journey and observations of the world around her. As a Cree/Métis mother of two young adults, Sharon felt a profound desire to create opportunities for empowerment and growth, both for herself and for other Indigenous women. Drawing from her diverse background as a student, entrepreneur, writer, and trainer, she recognized the power of education and skill development in driving positive change. Additionally, witnessing the challenges individuals and organizations face in navigating the realms of entrepreneurship and staffing, she saw an opportunity to bridge these gaps and make a meaningful impact. Thus, the idea for DEVA Training & Staffing Solutions was born—a venture aimed at empowering individuals and organizations through innovative training and staffing solutions while fostering collaboration and growth within these communities.
How are you scaling the business?
Sharon has partnered with a non-profit organization that supports women suffering from gender-based violence and just received a four-year grant. She is also exploring ways to support formerly incarcerated persons.
What are the main challenges as a founder in this industry?
Maintaining operational funding has been a rollercoaster ride filled with challenges and triumphs. As the chief cook, bottlewasher, and wearer of many hats, navigating entrepreneurship's financial aspects has been daunting and rewarding. There have been moments of uncertainty and difficulty where the weight of responsibility felt overwhelming. However, these challenges have also been opportunities for growth and learning. Sharon has embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of finding creative solutions and adapting to ever-changing circumstances. Whether it's through securing funding, managing expenses, or seeking out new revenue streams, every twist and turn has taught her valuable lessons about resilience, resourcefulness, and perseverance. Despite the hurdles, she remains committed to driving the venture forward, fueled by passion and determination to impact the world positively.
